About Holy Redeemer School

Holy Redeemer School is a private Catholic school, educating students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Our Catholic identity is portrayed throughout the hallways in our statues, crosses, and student work. Classrooms reflect this with special prayer corners, bibles, candles and religious pictures. We come together as a school family in St. Mary's chapel weekly for a prayer service or liturgy celebration prepared by a different class each week. Every student participates in a religion class daily and we incorporate prayer throughout the day.

We believe parents are the primary teachers in the formation of their children's faith. Families are expected and encouraged to have an active role in their children's faith formation, such as, attending Mass, First Communion and Reconciliation.

Holy Redeemer School has highly qualified teachers dedicated to their profession. All grade level teachers employed at Holy Redeemer School have a Minnesota teacher licensure from an accredited institution. All of HRS's seventh and eighth grade teachers are licensed for the subject area they are teaching.

Holy Redeemer School is involved in a variety of community activities and events. Junior Achievement volunteers educate students on communities. The Catholic Daughters assist with the Living Rosary prayer service. DARE educates students on the dangers of drugs. The Marshall Fire Department educates students on fire safety, and the Lyon County Environment Office informs students on the importance of recycling. Other community activities the school is involved in are: SMSU Homecoming Parade, Heart to Heart, March of Dimes, Pennies for Patients, Partners in Justice, St. Patrick's Day Parade, prayer partners and nursing home visits. Students can participate in sports that are not offered by Holy Redeemer School at Marshall High School. These activities include golf, baseball, swimming, track, gymnastics, wrestling, cross country and dance.

The total enrollment for 2006-2007 is 334. We currently have 36 in kindergarten, 25 in grade one, 40 in grade two, 39 in grade three, 35 in grade four, 34 in grade five, 44 in grade six, 41 in grade seven and 41 in grade eight.

At Holy Redeemer School, we have some diversity in our community of students. Three percent of our student body is non-Caucasian. Non-Catholic students make up 3.5 percent of the student body at Holy Redeemer School. Holy Redeemer School does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, national origin or age. All children of Marshall and the surrounding areas are invited to attend our school.

HRS is located in Marshall, Minnesota, a city of 12,735 (2000 census). Marshall is located in Lyon County in the southwestern part of the state. The Schwan Food Company is the largest employer with approximately 2,500 employees. US Bank Corporation, Hy-Vee Food Store and the Wal-Mart Supercenter each employ about 400 local people.

Marshall has had many recent building projects including a new high school in 2005. A new dome multipurpose/sports facility at SMSU, renovation of downtown Marshall, and a new county library are a few of the upcoming community improvements. Businesses that are new or coming to Marshall include KFC/A&W, Culvers, Starbucks, Menard’s and Cold Stone Creamery. The airport has recently been upgraded and the hospital is planning an expansion.
